Participation In GRESB Real Estate Benchmark Up 22%
2020 results driven by growing investor demand for ESG data
GRESB, the global environmental, social and governance (ESG) benchmark, has released preliminary results for its 2020 GRESB Real Estate Assessment. The benchmark now covers 1,229 portfolios in 64 countries with a total value of more than USD $4.8 trillion -- a 22 per cent increase over the 2019 figure.
Private-sector involvement drove the increase, with fully three-quarters of GRESB portfolios now in private ownership. The increase in investor demand for ESG benchmarking is particularly impressive given the depth of the economic downturn which has resulted from the COVID-19 pandemic.
